For this performance poster there was no specific theme provided, so I looked to the song choices for inspiration: Robert Frost poetry, Russian Orthodox hymns, sacred lullabies, and a joyful Santa tune. Though these cover a range of styles, they had all been carefully pored over and lovingly practiced to showcase the breadth of the art of singing in wintertime.
To reflect the human touch that often shows up in holiday decorating I digitally rendered a layered, cut-paper technique. The implied tactility also represents the delicate essence of the choir concert as a one-night-only, hear-it-to-believe-it event. (In the near future I do plan to construct this poster with paper.) Just like the concert was a patchwork of songs, so too was the layout of information and seasonal figures here.
The headline was digitally hand-drawn to continue the hand-crafted message while information text was typeset in Tuna. This face combines the readability of low contrast and chunky serifs with the warm character of a flat pen nib.
