In the laundry dryer balls market, conceptual brand Electric Sheep aims to set itself apart from the brown cardboard, muted hues, and friendly lamb mascots of the competition. Building upon the sheep angle, I began to think about unconventional associations when the sci-fi book title Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? popped into my head and wouldn’t leave. Leaning into the Tron/Bladerunner/early-cyber aesthetics of the 80s was the key point of differentiation for this project.
Since dryer balls need a container that doubles as storage I took inspiration from a coffee filter box lid that uses a perforated line for secure shipping that then reveals into a tab insert closure after being opened at home. As a quirky surprise here, the sheep image on the tab itself gets his sunglasses once the box is open for business.
For this brand, the broad Univers type family allowed me to mix styles to establish informational hierarchy while remaining bold and no-nonsense. Straight-edged monoweight letterforms support the high contrast geometry of the circles-and-grid aesthetic.
